Biography

Hong Kong soprano Lilian Tong is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and is active across opera, oratorio and concert repertoire throughout Europe.

Recent operatic engagements include Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Málaga Opera Academy (2026), Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro with Regium Lepidi Opera in Italy (2025), and Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème at the Shaw Theatre in London (2024). She has also worked with OPERA2DAY as understudy for the role of Sun in The Opera Circus.

Her earlier stage appearances include Serpina in Pergolesi’s La serva padrona with Muziektheater Hollands Diep Zomer Opera and Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with Codarts Opera Lab. In 2017, she appeared in the world premiere of Seconds of Fear at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, and performed the role of Irene in San Antonio de la Florida with Codarts Opera Lab as well as at Operadagen Rotterdam.

Alongside her operatic work, Lilian is an active oratorio and concert soloist. Her repertoire includes Bach’s St John Passion, St Matthew Passion and Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle, Rutter’s Requiem, Jenkins’ The Armed Man, Franck’s Messe solennelle, Arnesen’s Magnificat, as well as numerous Bach cantatas. In 2023, she made her debut at The Concertgebouw Amsterdam as soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah. She was subsequently invited by Operastudio Molise in Italy to perform in its opera concert series in 2024.

Lilian was a finalist in the Corsica Lirica International Singing Competition in 2023. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Codarts Rotterdam Conservatory, following her Bachelor of Arts degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
